Superstition

As a Chinese person, there are a lot of rules, regulations, and best practices for pretty much every aspect of social interaction. Most of these social guidelines are probably well over a thousand years old. The one regarding clocks and other time pieces, I would assume, is fairly recent. That being that you can not give a time piece as a gift. The logic is that it somehow is equivalent to saying you want the person to die. Their days are numbered, or something to that effect. I wonder if that applies to giving a book on how to make a paper clock, like Mr . Greg did. On the one hand, you’re giving them a book. On the other hand, the book is about making clocks. The end result of your actions, presumably, would be something that would number their days. Maybe it’s a conditional wishing of ill will. More of a, “If you make a clock, then I want you to die.” In any case, I didn’t know it was traditional to give something paper or a clock on the first wedding anniversary.
